R. Alexander Mohr, M.D., joins Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine as a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. His specialty is operative treatment of spinal disorders including disc degeneration, spinal trauma, sports related spine issues, scoliosis and minimally invasive spinal surgery. He completed the prestigious University of Wisconsin spine fellowship under the direction of Dr. Thomas Zdeblick.

He served three and a half years as the Director of the Division of Orthopedic Spine Surgery at the University of Connecticut and the Assistant Director of the New England Musculoskeletal Institute’s Comprehensive Spine Center.

He played Left Tackle at Utah State University where he graduated with honors (summa cum laude) and finished his senior year with Utah State winning the Las Vegas Bowl 2. He then completed medical school with honors at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He finished his five-year Orthopedic residency at the University of Utah where he was earned research awards and was elected Administrative Chief Resident. He was invited to an Orthopedic spine fellowship at the prestigious University of Wisconsin spine fellowship under the direction of Thomas Zdeblick, M.D., Clifford Tribus, M.D., Paul Anderson, M.D.

Dr. Mohr is trained in surgical and nonsurgical management of most spinal pathology. He instructs other physicians: orthopedic and neurosurgical residents, fellows and attendings in complex spinal procedures, minimally invasive techniques and construct planning.

He is a devoted sports enthusiast who enjoys working with athletes to return them to sport after sports related spinal injuries. He specializes in Football injuries both in diagnosis and prevention.

Dr. Mohr is a fellowship trained Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. He is a member of the North American Spine Society and the Lumbar Spine Research Society. He is also a board-certified member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He welcomes new patients at both our NCMC and Lakewood offices.

Stephen Miller APRN, MSN, AG-ACNP-BC, RNFA

Stephen Miller APRN, MSN, AG-ACNP-BC, RNFAPhysician Assistants

Stephen is a board-certified acute care nurse practitioner who practices with Advanced Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Houston, Cypress and Tomball, Texas. Stephen has 7 years of experience working as a nurse practitioner with neurosurgical and orthopaedic spine patients in the clinic, hospital, and operating room settings. He strives for each patient to be an active participant in their plan of care and thoroughly educated on their disease process.

Stephen completed a Master’s of Science of Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and went on to complete post-graduate work to become a surgical first assist. Stephen holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and worked as an RN in the Emergency Department, ICU and the operating room. Stephen is a member of the ANCC and the Houston Area Nurse Practitioners.

In his free time, Stephen enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 children, running marathons, golfing, and being an active member of Ecclesia church in Houston.


Monica Miranda

Monica Miranda MSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Monica Miranda, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC recently joined Dr. Robert Alexander Mohr’s team as a Nurse Practitioner in 2021. Monica is a true Houstonian and Texan, attending The University of Houston from 2006-2009, then receiving her Associates of Science in Nursing from the San Jacinto College of Nursing in 2012. Monica then went on to receive her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Texas Tech University and her Masters in Nursing from The University of Texas at Arlington in 2021.

Her recent experience in healthcare includes being a Registered Nurse for a Pain Management Specialist as well as a Pre-op/PACU RN, which essentially means she managed patient care for those pre and post-surgery. Monica could be described as being very caring and compassionate as well as dedicated to the care and outcome of each and every one of her patients. Monica is an upbeat, positive individual who treats every patient like family. Monica is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Her hobbies include exercising, cooking, teaching and serving at her church as well as spending time with family and friends and her dog, Chloe, who is 12 years old. We are excited to welcome Monica to AOSM and are looking forward to getting to know her more as she serves with Dr. Mohr’s Spine team.
