Dr. Mack has been practicing orthopedic surgery in Houston, Texas since 1995. He specializes in all aspects of reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder, and has a special interest in the treatment of current and former athletes and sports medicine injuries. He is double board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and holds a Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

Dr. Mack previously served as the founding Medical Director of the North Cypress Sports Medicine Center, and was a Clinical Instructor for Baylor College of Medicine. He has served as team physician for numerous local high schools, including the Cy-Falls Eagles and Jersey Village Falcons. He has treated professional, olympic, collegiate, and many amateur high school and club athletes. He understands the joy of sports and competition, and participates in a wide variety of sports including cycling, snow skiing, and hiking. His personal accomplishments include a full marathon, a number of half marathons, triathlons, and other competitions.

Dr. Mack is on the active medical staff at HCA North Cypress Medical Center, Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, CHI St. Luke’s Hospital at the Vintage, and Cy-Fair Surgery Center. He is a founding partner of Advanced Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, and served as its managing partner beginning in 2007, overseeing its growth to 12 physicians, 6 physician assistants, and a staff of over 90 employees.

Dr. Mack graduated summa cum laude from the University of Texas, and was elected Phi Beta Kappa. He completed his medical school training at Baylor College of Medicine where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and graduated with High Honors. He completed his orthopedic surgical residency at Baylor of College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center. His surgical training included study abroad in Switzerland and Australia where he concentrated his interest on surgical techniques in both knee and shoulder surgery.

Dr. Mack believes that patient care is a partnership between patient and doctor. He strives to provide his patients with all the information they need to make an informed decision about their treatment options. He attends regional and national conferences regularly, maintains current knowledge through reading peer-reviewed journals, and participates in ongoing research projects.

Thai Tran, MS, PA-C Physician Assistant

Thai was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United states as a child and grew up in Memphis, TN and Houston, TX. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from California State University of Dominguez Hills in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science. Subsequently, he went on to attend Physician Assistants School at the Western University of Health Science in Pomona, California. After graduating from PA School in 2006, he began his career at Advanced Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in 2007 with Dr. Alain Elbaz. While working with Dr. Elbaz, he focused on reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, hip and knee. He also specializes in non-operative management of orthopedic injuries and osteoarthritis with musculoskeletal ultrasound guided injections.

Thai continued his career at AOSM in June 2020 with Dr. David Mack, who specializes in all aspects of reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder, and has a special interest in the treatment of current and former athletes and sports medicine injuries. Thai still specializes in non-operative management of orthopedic injuries and osteoarthritis with musculoskeletal ultrasound guided injections, as well as the pre-operative and post-operative care of the surgical patient.
